| 2. The Legend of BioCeramica - Concepts | |||||
| Circa 8,500 years ago, Japanese kept their drinking water in vases of 'straw-rope spiral patterned pottery', known to Japanese archaeologists as 'Jyomon-Doki'. Although this was normal practice for much of Japan, no one knew why water in these vases made of clay from a certain area of Japan stayed fresher for much longer than water in vases made of clay from other parts of the country. Mr. Mori, (the founder of BioCeramica) found a segment of a 'Jyomon-Doki' vase in a natural history museum. It intrigued him. He wanted to find out what it did to water to make it last longer. He didn't need to know how it worked, all he needed was to know that it worked. Mr Mori and his colleagues shared a wealth of the experience in producing and delivering good natural food to school children. They also knew how to work with ceramics. It took twenty years of trial and error - experimenting with firing and glazing - before they obtained significant results. The 'smart ceramic' was born. They called it BioCeramica (BC).
